Shropshire & Herefordshire Alliance
This week we entered two teams at Hawkstone Park in the first of this year's winter alliance meetings.
Thank you to all the members who accompanied Simon and I on this enjoyable day out. There were over 20 teams in the field on a very blustery day and Shrewsbury did very well in picking up some of the prizes. Simon's team, consisting of George Valller, Adrian Price and Tom Kerr came 4th. Tom Kerr also picked up prizes for finishing 2nd in the amateur individual after shooting a very impressive 1 under par and winning the longest drive.
My team of Clive Harding, Graham Palmer and Bob Hill put in a very solid performance but were a little unlucky on the greens but they did a great job in encouraging me round to pick up 5th place in the Pro's individual, 3 shots behind the winner Shaun Ball from South Staffs.

After 5 great years at Shrewsbury Golf Club I have been offered the chance to caddie on the European Tour next year with a good friend of mine, James Busby. My first event will be at the start of January in South Africa. I will be keeping John up to date with my travels over the year which hopefully he will be able to pass on to you. I would like to thank all the members who have supported me in my role at Shrewsbury Golf Club and a special thank you to all the members who have accompanied me on days out in tournaments and pro ams.
I always feel fortunate that I have employed some great young assistants and I feel proud when they have completed their PGA training and move on to new challenges. Josh has been an excellent member of staff over the past five years and his departure will be a huge loss to Pro Shop. For Josh he is embarking on an exciting journey travelling around the world and seeing some of the finest golf courses with the best golfers in Europe. I hope that this new exiting experience will open many doors and opportunities for Josh to go on and develop his golfing career. I am hoping that Josh will keep in touch and keep us updated on life on tour.
I am sure that you will all want to wish Josh well on his Journey.
European Tour School
We have been following the fortunes of Ashley Chesters since he turned professional in September. Ashley has had a fantastic year and we were all hoping that he could cap his year off by winning a place on next year's European Tour.
Ashley played some brilliant golf to get into the final stages but unfortunately missed the final cut by two shots. This year's final stage was full of great players including Eduardo Molinari who after a poor season had to go back and earn his place to compete on next year's tour by making birdies on four of the last eight holes to qualify by a shot! It is one of sport's most brutal tests; 6 rounds of golf to earn the right to play for your living.
If you feel the pressure with a good score card in your hand coming down the 18th imagine what these guys are feeling with their entire playing career on the line!

Shrewsbury Golf Club 125th Anniversary Sweaters
In 2016 Shrewsbury Golf Club will be celebrating its 125th year. Glenmuir have produced this logo to help celebrate the occasion.
This logo can be put on the many sweaters that Glenmuir produce and will be available to order now.
