I hope you are all enjoying your golf. The recent dry mild weather we have been experiencing has helped the 3rd green recover from the essential drainage work which was carried out 3 weeks ago. The course is playing well for the time of year and Dan and his team are being kept busy clearing the autumn leaves. Due to the good conditions we have delayed the implementation of winter rules therefore please carry on with playing the ball as it lies until further notice. This Weekend we have the October Medal on Saturday and the Mixed Bourne Trophy on Sunday both these competitions you can enter on line.
The following Sunday 25th October is a Shotgun Competition and this is the winter 4BBB Qualifier. Entry is not online and must be entered by signing your name on the start sheet located in the men's changing room.

The Ladies AGM Wednesday 14th October
Thank you to Linda for the following;
The ladies of Shrewsbury Golf Club met on Wednesday morning for the 107th AGM of the Ladies Section. Despite there being 30 or so apologies, there was a good gathering of ladies in the clubhouse to support the Ladies Captain, Tina Robinson and the ladies committee, on what was a lovely sunny morning. Nominations for ladies section Captain and Vice Captain were announced, and these will be taken to the club AGM next week. Other members of the ladies committee were voted in, with Mary Saull being voted onto committee for the first time.
Margaret Mackereth thanked the committee for their work on behalf of the ladies. After the meeting, many ladies stayed for a very enjoyable lunch, and those that hadn't eaten too much then went and played a few holes of golf!
Snooker Loopy - Thank you to David Kidby for the following two articles:
When the sun goes down and the course lays quiet many Shrewsbury Golf Club Members turn their attention to a different type of ball game. From the bar the distant clicking of balls can be heard rolling across the green baize in the Greenhous snooker room. Last Thursday, to get the snooker season underway, members gather for a great evening of mixed fun snooker. Mixed teams competed in a knock out competition for the honour and glory of magnificent trophy. However, not many had their eye on the prize. The real focus of the event was to have fun. A wide range of members competed from complete beginners to seasoned players who rolled up with their own cues ready to help those less experienced reduce their chances of ruining the baize.
Matches were held for 20 minutes a piece with the highest scorers making it through to the next round. The evening included a half time sandwich break before the semi-finals matches got underway. The final match of the evening was a close contest with Amy Walker and Rob Oakley taking on Monica Scott and John Banks. After the potting of several balls, Monica and John emerged victorious to take the trophy. John is an experienced player who took time the evening before to show many members the basics of the game, contributing significantly to the enjoyment of the evening as many ventured into the snooker room for the first time to try the game.
Hole in one Day
Tuesday the 13th October was Hole in one day thanks to Geoff Rushworth and Tony Hignett. The first Hole in one came from Tony when he took his 20 degree utility wood out on the 2nd tee and sent it sailing towards the green right at the pin and watched it drop into the hole.
Meanwhile on the 14th Geoff Rushworth was about to drive the green literally proving that you don't have to be a long hitter to be a good golfer. Accuracy around the greens is what counts. A majestic shot heading for the dance floor was right on the money and Geoff's accurate drive saw him heading for the clubhouse with the second hole in one of the day.
Congratulations Geoff and Tony.
