Course Update
This week we have installed a drainage system to the 3rd green.
The 3rd green has been the wettest green on the course for a number of years and this work will improve the health of the green as it will be drier and be able to cope with play all year round which it has struggled with.
Due to the man power needed to carry out this job the only other jobs we have carried out this week are changing holes, cutting greens and moving tees.
Next week we will attach the drainage installed to a main drain and then get back on top of the cutting. We anticipate the 3rd green will be back open in 2-3 week weather dependent.
Thanks to Dan Perry for this update
Captain / Pro Matches
Thank you to David Sharpe and Kevin Roche for generously donating to the Captain's Charity and giving us a great match on Tuesday. It was privilege to be out playing on such a beautiful day with Dave and Kevin who went straight on the attack winning the first hole with a nett birdie. Nick and I bounced back with birdies and nett birdies on 3, 4 and 5 but Kevin had the bit between his teeth knocking in a great 20 foot putt on the 7th for birdie and then picking up nett birdies on 10 and 11 to win the holes.
I was a little off form and the situation was not looking good as we lost 13 to a par and then watched Kevin hole out his birdie putt from 4 feet on the 14th. I managed to hole a good putt on the 16th for birdie to keep us going and then, to add a little excitement, Dave hit a great bunker shot from the right hand bunker on 17th which pitched straight in the hole but then jumped back out. With the match evenly poised we halved the 18th in pars to finish the match with an honourable half.
It was another great match and good company with David and Kevin working well as a team, they definitely had us on the back foot and got very close to taking our undefeated record.

A special mention to Gordon Taylor who likes to beat his age and now he is over 80 all he has to do is shoot in the 70s which of course is what Gordon does with ease.
I was also pleased to see Shaun Minton win a major trophy. Shaun came for some advice on his swing a couple of weeks ago and called into the pro shop to say how much better he was striking the ball, therefore, it was great to see him win an honours board competition.
Division 2
1st - Terry Cole - 69
2nd - Steven Kempsell - 71

The following article got published this week and I am sure many of our members will be following and wishing Ashley all the best of luck with his playing career.
Two-Time European Amateur Champion Ashley Chesters Turns Professional with Nike Golf (October 1, 2015)
Nike Golf has today announced the signing of Ashley Chesters, as the 26-year-old prepares to make his maiden professional appearance at The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland.
Shropshire-born Chesters posted an impressive record as an amateur, including two European Amateur Championship victories, firstly in 2013 which qualified him for the 2014 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool - a tournament eventually won by fellow Nike athlete Rory McIlroy.
Chesters' successful defence of the European Amateur Championship later that year again secured a place at the 144th Open Championship in 2015 at St Andrews, where a superb display of ball-striking and game-management over the four days saw him finish T-12 at The Home of Golf.
One of Chesters' final acts in tournament golf as an amateur was to help the Great Britain and Ireland team defeat the United States in The Walker Cup at Royal Lytham and St Annes last month, and he has now signed a multi-year, head-to-toe deal with the iconic Swoosh brand.
Speaking ahead of his debut professional start on The European Tour, Chesters said: 'I'm looking forward to teeing it up on Thursday for the first time as a professional and, having grown up playing Nike Golf equipment, it will be great to do so in Nike colours.'
'Nike Golf has a track record of utilizing their athletes when it comes to testing products and giving feedback to the engineering teams, and this is something I am extremely-excited about. I will continue to work hard to build on the success I achieved as an amateur now I have turned professional,' he added.
We have the new Oscar Jacobson winter range now in stock. Make sure you check it out the next time you are in the shop!
