Return of the Mac (Thank you to David Kidby for the Following)

It's Monday evening, the clouds are gathering and the nights are drawing in. Perhaps it's not surprising that only a hardened few, prepared to hit balls in the face of impending meteorological adversity, head for the first tee in the penultimate Monday night mixed social. Just eleven intrepid players teed off and were quickly donning waterproofs as the heavens opened. Modern weatherproof technology and a good brolly proved effective as good stableford scores were returned. Back in the Clubhouse, gathered around the table and warmed by cottage pie, talk turned to the final on the 26th September, an 18 hole event that marks the close of the mixed night socials. Lady Captain, Tina Robinson, thanked Hilary Fabian, who leads the organising team, for her hard work making the socials this year a reality as she will not be at the final. Anyone wanting to play in the mixed social has an opportunity this Monday, the last Monday night of the mixed social 2015 season. Monica Scott and David Czarnetski scored well in the rain returning 20 points to take third position. Just one point ahead, clinching second place, were Caroline Sycamore and Bernard Martin. Solid play from Anne Home - Dodd, whose golf improved the more the weather deteriorated, and David Kidby produced 22 points to put them in top spot. David Czarnetski and Jill Perrin took the spot prize for golfing excellence on the par threes.

Course news

Greens News

This coming week the greens will be scarified at a depth of 20mm, this will help remove any thatch that might have built up over the year and will keep the greens healthy. If thatch levels in the greens become excessive the greens can become spongy meaning the playability of the greens wouldn't be as good. The greens will be back to normal condition within a couple of weeks.

Pro Am

The Shropshire Pro Am

Simon and I took 2 teams to compete in a pro am at the Shropshire Golf Club on Wednesday. Thank you to the following members Duncan Lowndes, David Kidby and Tom Kerr who played in my team and to Simon's Team Adrian Price, John Maddox and George Valler. Both Teams scored 81 points to finish tied 2nd in the event but Simon's Team pipped us on a better back nine. It was a great day out and I was pleased to see our members going home with their prizes supplied by PING.

Captains news

Captains Charity Day

Congratulations to Rob Oakley, Clive Harding, Mark Wooton and Conrad Jones (pictured here) who won the event last weekend with a very impressive score which beat some very good teams.

Thank you to all the members who supported this event which raised over £1,500 and well done to David Gilmour who did an excellent job as auctioneer. David even managed to sell Bill Robinson back the bottle of port which Bill had originally donated.

Captain pro challenge

The Captain and I have managed to continue our unbeaten run this year by overcoming the challenge from Ali McCormick who chose Simon Davies to partner him. Ali and Simon got an early lead and were looking the stronger pair on the front nine. The match could have gone either way with Alistair holing some good putts and Simon striking some impressive drives. Fortunately the Captain and I made some good birdies in the last few holes to secure a victory on the 16th. The match as always was very competitive but great fun.

The Captain and I are available next Wednesday afternoon at 2pm if any members wish to make a donation to charity and take on the challenge please contact the pro shop.
