Jack and Ivy Oakley Trophy (Thank you to David Kidby who supplied the following)
The Sun shone on Sunday and the course was in tip top condition for the Jack and Ivy Oakley Trophy. This mixed foursomes event is held annually and always proves popular. The competition is a medal providing a good test of mixed golf. Selecting the odds or even holes for each partner to drive off on is the first challenge, then gelling on the short game. The good weather and excellent play conspired to generate some great scores across the playing field. The sun also bought out the best in dress sense with Jeff Moody's traditional bright attire and natty dress sense seeing competition from Helen Davies and Bob Hill who took to the course in bright orange.
1st Nick Baker and Mair Harris - 66.5
2nd David Kidby and Caroline Sycamore - 68.5
3rd Robert Oakley and Linda Mottram - 69
4th Marie O'Sullivan and Chris Griffiths - 70
Competitors were also rejuvenated around the course with the appearance of Milk Tray chocolates courtesy of a strange man dressed in black who shall remain anonymous.
David and Helen had a recent bet and it looks like they have exchanged one another's favourite colour schemes.
I think Helen looks great with a little colour but David spent the day out of his comfort zone and felt totally unrecognizable!

Monday Night Mixed Social (Thank you to David Kidby who supplied the following article)
Monday evening continues to be a fun event. The format is a mixed Greensomes where you are drawn for partners. Played across the front nine off the ladies index, it's a great social game and improves your golf as you often find yourself playing from distances and positions you would not usually be in. The competition is a stableford and is followed by an informal supper and a chat at which prizes are presented for the top three teams together with a spot prize.
On the 3rd August, 20 players took to the course. The course conditions and fine weather saw some good scores returned with Elaine Adams and David Czarnetzki taking third place with 22 points. Ruth Grafton and Roy Humphreys edged into second position by just one point. However great golf played by Marion Adams and The Captain, Nick Baker saw them convincingly into pole position with a fantastic 25 points. The Lady Captain, Tina Robinson and Roy Humphreys scooped the spot prize for the week for the best scores on the 2nd, 5th and 7th holes.
Last Monday, 25 players competed and Jane Hughes made a welcome return. Again scores were high with third place winners Elke Williams and The Captain, Nick Baker scoring 21 points. Again there was just one point separating second and third, Monica Scott and Chris Edwards putting well to secure the runners-up spot. A winning score of 24 points saw Elaine Adams improve on her previous week's standing with her partner Bernard Martin taking top spot. Competitors retired to the dining room to consume a choice of hearty fish pie or healthy ham salad.
If you would like to play in this very enjoyable evening you would be more than welcome. Just sign up on the mixed notice board in the club. It's a great opportunity to meet people and enjoy a fun format.
