Last week the Captain enjoyed the support of over 200 members who competed in his Captain's Day and it was wonderful to see so many members and their families filling the clubhouse and enjoying the evening function. Thank you to David Kidby who has sent me a very full report of the day which I have included below.
This weekend the Club has got the August Medal on Saturday and we will be asking for a £1 donation to go to the Help for Heroes charity. We have been supporting this charity on an annual basis for the last few years. On Sunday we have the Open Mixed Am / Am. Teams of 4 (2 ladies and to 2 gentlemen). The event could do with a couple more entries so if you would like to support this event and enter a team please contact Les Lewis or the Pro shop.

Captain's Day - Thank you to David Kidby for sending this report.
This year's Captain, Nick Baker had an excellent Captain's Day this year. The sun shone for most of the day with only a few refreshing showers to keep the greens looking great and test the waterproofs. 180 men took to the course in a stableford on putting surfaces running at 12 on the stimpmeter.
A further 23 Ladies participated in a challenging 9 hole stableford competition. The half-way house was well stocked with cooling water selected by players fancying their chances of a good score, following their front nine, and something alcoholic for those who were committed to enjoying the day whatever their back nine result.
Drinks were served by Ladies who had given up their time to encourage play and add to the ambience and glamour of the day. The triumph of the golfing day was the winning score by Iain Anderson who shot a superb front nine of 27 points off a 21 handicap. A combination of great golfing skill and a little luck resulted in a magnificent score. A respectable back nine culminated in 41 points to take top spot. Scores of 38 and 37 were enough to secure wins in the other divisions.
Karen Thaw took the ladies prize with a fantastic 20 points, narrowly beating Jean Evans with 19 points. The day culminated in a prize presentation where the assembled throng learned that it is dangerous not to be dressed in time for a presentation when you are in the prizes. This resulted in an unexpected presentation made in the gent's locker room.
A trio of curry's from the orient accompanied by nan bread, rice and chutney set people in a dancing mood as the disco burst into life with hits from the seventies to modern day. Eventually, Ed Sheeran provided the closing songs to a very memorable day as the evening drew to a close.
