Monday Night Social

Another beautiful summer evening set the scene for great play on the Monday night social. While Monica Scott got their round off to a great start with an eagle on the second and five stableford points others on the course were also scoring well, though in less spectacular style. The course is currently in great condition and with greens running fast and true Hilary Fabian and David Czarnetski rolled the putts in to take third place with 20 points. Monica Scott and Roy Dodd capitalised on their early scores adding a birdie on the eighth to their demonstration of short-hole supremacy and returning 22 points. However victory went to Ruth Grafton and The Captain, Nick Baker, also with 22 points, but posting a better final three holes. Annie Holme Dodd and Roy Humphries scooped the spot prize for the best scores on the par 4s. All nineteen players tucked into either curry in the clubhouse or a filled baked potato healthy option. Any member wanting to play in the Monday mixed social is more than welcome and can sign up on the mixed notice board.

A hole in one for Monica

Last Monday night's social provided the setting for Monica Scott to demonstrate her golfing prowess with a hole in one. Drawn with Roy Dodd as a partner she tee'd off on the second with a hybrid iron hitting the ball towards the pin.

"I was sure the ball would be on the green, but I didn't see it go in the hole as it was into the sun. It was only when we got to the green, and could not immediately see it, that we checked the hole and there it was," said Monica.

This is Monica's second hole in one and everyone in the clubhouse celebrated with a cooling summer Pimms.

Sunday 9th August Mixed Open

The ninth of August promises the opportunity for members to play in a better ball with the promise of exciting prizes. A better ball format is a very sociable game with the opportunity to do well with flashes of brilliance from each member of your team rather than having to be consistently good all the way round. This better ball brings the glamour of a mixed team, great prizes to be won and as it's an open the potential to invite a lady or gent from another club to make up your mixed team. You can book this competition online too, so why not have a look this weekend and get a team together?

Junior Club Championships

Congratulations to Dan Sherratt who won after 41 holes. Thank you to David Kidby who supplied the following report.

When Dan Sherratt and Joe Sherratt stepped on to the first tee in this year's junior Club Championship they could not have predicted the great golf they were about to play and the epic finale they were to create. Joe, off a handicap of 7, and Dan, playing off 13, finished their thirty six holes each with a gross combined score of 163. Dan chipped in from the side of the 18th green with a seven iron to force a family play off over four holes. After halving the first hole play moved to the ninth where Dan took an early lead that was consolidated on the tenth hole with a further half. Leaving just the 18th to play. Joe parred the hole to bring the playoff to all square. Both brothers proceeded up the first to play sudden death where a par by Dan secured him the title of Junior Club Champion.

"It was a terrific match and I'm really happy to have won. I gave Joe a high five at the end and we agreed we had both done our best and played great golf," said Dan.

The battle for Club Champion is decided on the gross score, and took 41 holes, Henry Gregory played solid golf to scoop the prize for best nett score with two rounds played to level par.

Lady Captains' Day is a Triumph (Thank you to David Kidby who supplied the following)

Over ninety ladies took to the course this Wednesday on Lady Captain's Day. Each were treated to a complimentary pair of sporting socks, presented beautifully in a small gift bag, and experienced a novel first tee with bowls of flowers as the markers. The weather was kind with many ladies enjoying dry weather and a sunny back nine. Sustenance came in the form of a wide range of tasty drinks and home-made shortbread biscuits made by the Lady Captain Tina Robinson who was there to meet and greet ladies before tacking on the challenge of the back nine. In a change to conventional format, the Lady Captain held an evening supper and prize presentation to which all players and past Lady Captains were invited. The new format proved a great success, with over seventy ladies enjoying a glass of wine before sitting down to a delicious goats cheese quiche with new potatoes and salad followed by a naughty, but nice, ice-cream sundae presented by Bill Robinson in traditional cinema style. Linda Mottram and Karen Thaw particularly enjoyed the dessert as ice-cream aficionados. The Captain, Nick Baker was also on hand to provide an exceptional service. An extensive prize presentation with a plethora of prizes from luxurious hand bags to spectacular suit cases followed. Karen Thaw won best gross and Marjorie Gilmour took the Lady Captain's prize. Photographs of all the winners will be posted on the club's website shortly. There were many prizes given out on the day… please click here for full results.
