Well done to Helen Davies who has taken a week off work to enjoy the fine weather and play some excellent golf. Helen managed to win the Ladies Hargrove Rosebowl on Monday and then continued her good form on Wednesday to tie for first in The Ladies Cup. Helen will be in a playoff against Sue Skinner who also scored an excellent nett 70.

Lady Captains Away Day Last Thursday

Tina Robinson arranged a very successful away day to Great Barr Golf Club. I have been informed that the day went well, the course was great although some found the greens tricky. The sun was shining and the Ladies enjoyed their gin & tonics on the terrace after their golf. Congratulations to the following winners.

Ladies Mail on Sunday Team

Thank you To Jean Evans for the following update;

Shrewsbury Ladies' run in the Mail on Sunday Golf Classic came to an end with a defeat in round 5 at Ingestre Park. The away fixture against a very strong team resulted in a loss of a half to four and a half. [The Staffordshire team qualified for the Grand Final in 2013]

Shrewsbury Ladies reached round five with a victory of four and a half to a half against Wrekin in round four which left us as the last Shropshire ladies team remaining in the competition. Previous rounds saw us beat The Shropshire at home and Arscott away.

All in all a great performance with thanks and congratulations to all team members - Sue Pritchard, Jayne Breeze, Carol Burgan, Monica Scott, Larissa Jones, Liz Harding, Linda Mottram, Karen Thaw, Margaret Burge, Sue Marsh, and Jean Evans.

Open Combined Am-Am

The Combined open on Sunday was well attended by a range of clubs from across the region. Local clubs included the Vale of Llangollen, Worsley and Lilleshall. A team from Silecroft, regulars at this event, were also extended a very warm welcome. Teams of four battled for the best stableford score with the two best scores on each hole to count. In addition there were spot prizes for nearest the pin on three different holes including nearest the pin with a second shot on the eighteenth.

Nearest the pin for men on the second hole was won by Alex Grainger from Bridgnorth putting the ball just 85 mm from the cup.

The ladies nearest the pin on the sixth hole was won by Laura Morris from Arscott. The nearest the pin with the second shot on the 18th was clinched by Lorna Sharman for the ladies and David Kidby from Shrewsbury Golf Club for the men. 

Monday Mixed Social

The Monday night mixed social saw 23 players take to the fairways for fun in the sunshine this week. Chris Edwards, fresh from his victory in the combined open on Sunday was welcomed back to his first Monday night social this season. The sunny weather resulted in some good golf!

The additional spot prize was won by Di Robinson and David Clarke scoring nett birdies on all three of the chosen holes. 

Summer Ball

Last chance to get your tickets for Saturday night's summer ball. Get down to the bar tonight to collect a ticket and join over a hundred club members in party mode. Tickets are selling fast, but there are a few left. Just £30 including a gourmet buffet and dancing All Night Long.

Junior Team Away at Patshull

Shrewsbury Golf Club Junior Team played their first match of the season on Saturday at Patshull Park, and had a fantastic result winning 4-1.

Sporting their new lime green tops sponsored by Greenhous, the team began the season playing some excellent competitive golf.

The next match will be played this Saturday Away against Bridgnorth. A big thank you to Richard Beason, Stewart and Sarah Jones who have arranged these matches and all the parents who are helping with our junior section.  

Shrewsbury Half Marathon

Good Luck to our head Greenkeeper, Dan Perry, who is running the Shrewsbury Half Marathon on the Sunday, 21 June. He will be running in aid of the Captain's Charity, The Neonatal Unit, PRH. If you wish to support Dan you can place a donation in the box that is located in the bar area.
