Ladies Friendly
Thank you to Sheila Band for providing me with the following:
Shrewsbury ladies played a very enjoyable friendly match at home on Friday against the ladies of Meole Brace. The course was lovely as was the company and the result was a win for the home team 2 1/2 to 1 1/2.
Hole in One
Congratulations to Peter Houston who had a hole in one on the 6th hole during the May Medal on Saturday. Peter informs me that this was his second hole in one, the first he felt was a little lucky but this one was a perfect strike. Well done Peter!
Winter Alliance Final
Congratulation to Josh on becoming the Shropshire and Herefordshire PGA Alliance Champion for the 2014/ 2015 Winter Series.
On Tuesday Simon and Josh took two teams to play in the final event of this seasons Shropshire and Herefordshire PGA Alliance at The Wergs. Josh was going with the aim to win the Winter Alliance Order of Merit, to succeed he had to beat Phil Hinton on the day. Josh successfully accomplished this with a score of 2 over on a testing day. It is great to see the trophy returning back to Shrewsbury Golf Club after Ricky won the trophy in 2013.
Simon also had a successful day finishing tied 3rd, one ahead of Josh, with a score of 1 over par. With Simon's improvement over the past 12 months I am sure he will also be in contention next year.
The Pro shop staff would like to thank all the members that have played in the alliances this year and we hope you have enjoyed your days out. The alliances will start again in October.

Still time to play Better Ball
The open better ball competitions are beginning to fill up with the promise of playing golf with fellow members and friends from other clubs with the promise of exciting prizes. A better ball format is a very sociable game with the opportunity to do well with flashes of brilliance from each member of your team rather than having to be consistently good all the way round. This makes for great fun and good chances of being in the prizes. Go to the competitions part of the website to book your entry on-line. Open competitions you should consider are: the Men's open four ball better ball on Saturday, 20 June, where there are still tee times available from 12:40 to 13:40; the Ladies open Am Am on the Wednesday, 17 June; the very popular mixed open Sunday, 28 June where places are filling fast; the Seniors mixed open on Thursday, 16 July where there are some limited tee times available between 12:00 to 12:20 and 15:10 to 15:20; the open mixed Am Am on Sunday, 9 August where you still have your choice of tee times, so get booking to pick your favourite golfing time of day.

Monday mixed social
This Monday evening 18 members through their names in a hat to be drawn with a partner to take on the front nine in a mixed greensome stableford format. The quickening greens and excellent course conditions made for some great scores. Ruth Grafton and The Captain, Nick Baker, scored 20 points to come in third position. Also with 20 points sneaking into second position on count back were Jan Dodd and Simon Davies. Great putting from Eileen Hyde and Rob Harding resulted in a solid performance securing them 1st position with 21 points. The competition now includes a spot prize that was won by Monica Scott and Simon Davies for scoring excellence on the par fives, of which there are three on the front nine when playing off the ladies index. Everyone sat down to enjoy a delicious curry or jacket potatoes with a variety of toppings. If you would like to play in the next Monday night's social you would be very welcome. This Monday is a bank holiday, so the next social is on Monday, 1 June. Just sign up on the sheet on the mixed notice board for this fun event.
Members Divoting night Wednesday 3rd June 5.30 to 7.00pm
We need as many members as possible, so that members can divide up into groups and each can take a fairway or two. You and your fellow members will systematically walk the fairway filling in divots with seedy soil. Not only will it be fun, but when you are playing off a beautiful lie in the summer competitions, you'll know why. Sign up on the notice board in the main reception for a fun evening with a bucket. Please come along and you will be treated to a FREE buffet and a drink
Wild Flowers
The wild flowers between the 7th tee and the 9th hole aren't GUR and relief should not be taken from this area.
