Handicap League
Last Saturday Shrewsbury Golf Club's Handicap League Team played their return match with the Shropshire Golf Club as one of the six matches they play in the first round of this event. The match was played on Shropshire's Silver and Blue course taking in spectacular scenery across to Lilleshall. The course was in great condition and some excellent golf was played by both sides. Shropshire's Jack Willmott and David Hughes played very well, clinching an early victory against Derek Jury and Graham Palmer.
Shrewsbury responded with Phil Millar and Phil Jones winning their match against Tom Howells and Tom Williams, but John Heath and Derek Free took their match against Brian Reid and Chris Griffiths on the 16th. Despite a close battle between Shrewsbury's Dave Kidby and John Rigby and Shropshire's Steve Bent and Andy Donald resulting in an honourable half, Chris Bott and Julian Powell, together with Nick Jones and Adam Brown, won their games on the 17th to secure the match. The teams convened to the clubhouse to enjoy a delicious meal. Shrewsbury's next match is at home to Market Drayton.

Henlle Park Golf Club plays Shrewsbury
This year Henlle Park Golf Club joined the other clubs Shrewsbury Golf Club enjoy playing in mixed friendly competitions throughout the year. The team from Henlle Park were made very welcome and enjoyed an afternoon of enjoyable golf in the sunshine. Familiarity with the course and the increasing speed of the greens meant Shrewsbury Golf Club won the competition. Every one enjoyed getting to know members from Henlle and enjoyed a delicious meal in the club house.
Shrewsbury are looking forward to a return match at Henlle Park. Should you wish to play in mixed friendly competitions look out for further opportunities this year on the mixed notice board in the club house. Everyone who played appreciated the excellent job Bill Robinson did organising the event and the quality of the food and service in the club house.

Mixed Social Scores
Monday Evening's 28 players were wringing their hands as they came into the clubhouse to enjoy a delicious meal. The breeze bought a chill with it making the food and company all the more welcome. Hearty gammon, eggs and chips greeted some players while succulent salmon with new potatoes provided a lighter option. The cold reflected the lower scores for the evening's nine holes. Four teams contended for second and third with 17 points. Hilary Fabian and Roy Dodd just missed out on a podium finish taking fourth spot. Pam Morgan and Roger Withinshaw came in third with Eileen Hyde and Bob Hill clinching second place. Solid play in the face of declining temperatures were Ruth Grafton and Rob Harding who, undeterred by climate romped home with 19 points to take first place.
Regular players in the mixed social are reminded that this Monday is a bank holiday, so the next opportunity to play in this fun evening is on the 11th May. If other members would like to join in the fun just sign up on the mixed notice board. We would love you to join us for what is a very enjoyable evening. Hilary, Tina and Bob are adding extra spice to the proceedings on the 11th with some spot prizes to be won for golfing prowess on the course where flashes of brilliance will pay dividends replacing the 'Play Your Cards Right' format.
