Jordan Spieth equalled the lowest winning score in Masters history to cap a record-breaking display at Augusta and win his first major.
The 21-year-old American, second on his debut last year, shot a two-under 70 to triumph on 18 under. Spieth put a fabulous display of golf on from day 1 to day 4 and held his nerve fantastically well through the back 9 on Sunday. What stood out for me watching on Sunday was his level of maturity for a 21 year old, many established players have faltered through the famous back 9 at Augusta but not him. He seemed to take everything in his stride and just play superb golf shots over and over again.
England's Justin Rose hit 70 to finish 14 under, joint second with three-time champion Phil Mickelson (69) who ended runner-up in a major for the 10th time.
World number one Rory McIlroy finished fourth on 12 under after a 66.

John Rhodes Winter Trophy
After one cancellation and one postponement the John Rhodes Winter Trophy was finally decided on 2nd April. Despite overnight rain and threat of more rain during the day, the course was in remarkably good condition considering and all the greens were in play. There was some remarkably good scoring with three players with 40 or more stableford points. One was Allan McVittie whose 44 points allowed him to pip Ricky Wolstenholme for the trophy, whose six rounds were amazingly consistent. The winner was decided on the best five of six winter Stablefords. By discarding his one round of 28 points Allan ended up with 192 points compared to Ricky's 185, whose discarded round was 32 points.

This week the course has had a full cut now the grass is really starting to grow and the definition is making the course look a lot better, fairways have had to be cut three times to keep on top of the growth. Between the 1st and 8th greens there is now approximately 250 tonnes of top soil, this is now waiting to be sculpted.
On the greens the surfaces continue to improve with the greens stimping at 10.5 this morning. There is also very encouraging signs of germination in the areas that were over-seeded.
On the front 9 you may see a blue disc just of the fairway on each hole; these are the new Junior Academy tees.
We now have fountains operational in both water hazards on the course.

1st: Mary Saul and Roger Withinshaw 20 points (decided on count back)
2nd: Jan Dodd and Roy Humphreys 20 points
3rd: Rob Harding and Caroline Sycamore 19 points
Prepare to repair
Now the evenings are drawing out, golf at Shrewsbury is in full swing. As you hit your next majestic shot to just a foot from the pin for your next birdie spare a thought for the slight indentation four foot away where your ball landed. Looking for the dent and repairing it before you putt is quick, easy and helps keep the conditions of the green tip top. A badly repaired, or left, pitch mark can causing scarring on the green.
If you are new to the game here's how to repair your pitch mark very quickly and if you are not new, it's always good to have a reminder, so you are confident in your repairing technique.
The pitchmark is created as the ball lands with force on the green and compacts the surface of the green in one direction. To repair it properly you are aiming to ease the turf back into place and re-level the surface of the green. If you attack the pitch mark from the front, lifting the turf as you do so, you need to refine your technique. Instead, you should attack the mark from the back and push the turf into the centre of the mark, relieving the compaction created by the ball. Some people occasionally leave their pitch mark inadvertently, so when the opportunity arises please help out your fellow golfer and repair someone else's in addition to yours. Now it's time to enjoy your birdie putt."
