Course Condition
The recent damp cold weather has not been ideal for the golf course. However the Greens staff are working hard to keep the course in great condition and maximise the time members can play on the course throughout the winter. The quality of the course is always good during the Summer and this is due to a combination of greens staff expertise in course management and the patience of members. The Greens Committee thank you all for this. Greens staff over the past year have been working on an extensive range of projects to improve drainage on the course that is on-going and more details of this will be shared with you in future newsletters. One of the great pleasures of the golf course is the exciting greens and where possible most club members want to play these throughout the winter months, while keeping them in the best possible condition. On occasions, some holes need temporary greens and you may have encountered one on the second and the seventh this year. These are temporary in every sense, so expect to be playing the main greens again soon. Where possible, club members also want to play the main tees throughout the year, so some of the yellow tees have moved forward temporarily where necessary. However, high wear and tear on the sixth tee has warranted a different approach and a winter tee will be built for this hole from high grade all year useable grass matting. Again there will be more on this in future newsletters. The greens Committee thank you once again for your patience and understanding and hope you enjoy your winter golf.
Greens Committee – Feb 2015
The Seniors’ section have some exciting events to look forward to this year. They are already gearing up to defend their title in the Tom Smart Trophy Club against twenty other clubs at Ludlow Golf Club in March. The Senior friendly matches also get underway in April with an away match to The Vale of Llangollen, a picturesque Welsh course with a challenging par 3 to finish. Graeme Crump, Seniors Captain said:
“We have a packed programme of events this year from 27 friendly matches. I’m delighted that Oxley Golf Club are a new club that we will be playing this year and I’m looking forward to developing close and friendly links with them. We have a very active seniors’ section and while June seems a long way off spaces to play in the Seniors Open on June 2nd are becoming limited already. Anyone wishing to play can get details and entry forms are available via the club office, the Seniors Notice Board and Golf Empire. Also, the Seniors’ Mixed Open is on Thursday 16th July and entry forms are available via the club office and Ladies Section. This year should be another exciting one for the Seniors’ section and I’m looking forward to enjoying it with you all.”
