Competition news

Brassie Competition

Congratulations to Nick Evens who defeated Tom Kerr in the 36-hole final played last Saturday.

The match was always very close after 18 holes the match was tied and it was eventually decided on the final 36th hole.

Hargrove Teams

Shrewsbury has enjoyed a good run in this county event over the past few years but unfortunately, this year both our A and B teams have been knocked out of the competition.

The A-Team went out losing at Burghill Valley Golf Club and the B team lost to Telford. Both teams will now compete in the plate competition.

Jean and Graham Evan’s Appreciation Challenge

We had a fantastic turnout of over 170 competitors for this event for Jean and Graham who have given so much to the golf club over the years.

Ladies Section

The Lady Captain vs Secretary competition was played for today with Gill standing in for Karen Thaw. There was a loud cheer in the car park when Lady Captain Carol arrived and suggested that in view of the Wednesday rain we should just play nine holes!

The teams went out cheerfully in their waterproofs and played with great spirit with the Secretary’s team winning narrowly 6/5.

More importantly, there was a lovely atmosphere with lots of laughter both on the course and later in our socially distanced clubhouse. More of the same, please!

Remote Control Stewart Trolley (2nd hand)

Rob Oakley, who have I recently seen and is making a recovery from his recent illness would like to sell this fantastic trolley. New it is worth over £1,000 it has hardly been used.

We have got the trolley in the pro shop and you are welcome to have a look at it and speak to us about this item.

Hot streaks continue

Tyrrell Hatton followed up his impressive BMW PGA Championship win with a T3 on the PGA Tour over the weekend - not bad after a late dash across the pond following his Wentworth triumph! In Europe, Aaron Rai has finished first, second and third over his last four events.

Bounce made simple

You’ll often hear golf commentators say “the bounce is your friend” but what is ‘bounce’ on a wedge? Well, it refers to the angle of the leading edge and plays an important role in how your wedge interacts with the turf through impact.

As the image shows above, the higher the wedge bounce the more the leading edge is off the ground and pointing upwards.

But how does this help you? Well, having the correct bounce for the course conditions and your swing type will offer additional forgiveness and promote a better strike, which is something that we can talk you through more in-store.
