Captains Day Not quite the mens Captain's day I had envisaged at the start of the year, but important for me that the event was played in what otherwise has been a difficult year for golfers and the club. The golfing gods were smiling with me, with some heavy rain in the week to green up the course and glorious perfect weather on the day. A fabulous turnout of 191 players on the day and my thanks to all who took part. The largest number for a competition so far this year. At the halfway house I enjoyed meeting up with old and new faces for a chat and refreshment and thanks to all of you for your kind words.
The 10th tee is challenging to all of us at the best of times but perhaps a little added pressure with a small spectator audience. More tee shots to the left but quite a few well-struck shots it has to be said onto the railway line. The provisional shots were all struck well; isn't that just always the way. Thanks to Jayne Breeze, Allan McVittie, Jane Wilde my partner and others who joined me on the 10th tee to keep me company. Thanks to Dan and his team for setting up the 10th gazebo and the course on the day.
My thanks also to Connor and Trey in the Pro shop and Sue and Rachael who fed and watered us. A special thank you to Gordon Leech for seeing you all off the 1st tee, much appreciated. The Captain's prize was won by Daniel McGowan with an excellent round of 42pts helped by a cracking back nine. Well done Dan and the presentation of the prize will be held on prize-giving night. The extra mini comps were won by Dave Lucas-Garner with the 5th hole longest drive past the right-hand bunker over the road.
Nearest the pin 6th Luke Sutter, 14th Allan McVittie and nearest in 2 at the 18th Alan McCormick. Well done all. All Prize vouchers have been credited to your pro shop account. It leaves me to thank you all again. I had a great chilled out day and didn't hit one bad shot. I wish you all good golfing for the rest of the season. Play safe!
