Juniors quarter-final

This week was used to play the quarter-final round matches of the Peter Jones Putter. Only two matches were played due to holidays.

The match between Isla and Ewan went to the 17th with lots of exciting play featuring in the match and Isla winning with a par. The other match between Rory and Alex went to the 18th with Rory recovering well from the bunker only to narrowly miss the putt leaving Alex the victor.

The next round to be played by August 23rd.

Hargrove Final

Last Sunday the Shrewsbury Hargrove team produced a fantastic fightback against Ludlow in the 2nd leg of the fixture.

After losing 3 -0 and by 6 holes at Ludlow it always going to be difficult but with all three matches up after the first 9 holes it looked like a team win was possible. The first 2 Shrewsbury pairings ended up winning comfortably so it was all down to the last match.

Unfortunately on this occasion the Ludlow pair played well and beat Sean and Barry on the 16th to secure the win for Ludlow. Well done to all the Hargrove players who worked so hard as a team to get to the final and got so close to winning the trophy.

Well done to David Holder – Gilmour who has successfully captained the Hargrove team for a number of years including their great Hargrove win a couple of years ago. David also very kindly sponsored some of the team clothing through Morland Potter Financial.

Another World Number 1

Jon Rahm’s stint at the top of the rankings lasted just a single week. All eyes were on Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson to challenge the Spaniard for that top-of-the-world spot. But it was Justin Thomas, slipping under the radar, who reclaimed it with a win at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.

If Thomas had gone under the radar beforehand, he certainly didn’t on Sunday. A combination of pink trousers and outstanding golf saw the 27-year-old steal the show, coming from four shots behind overnight leader Brendon Todd, he overtook the likes of Koepka and Rickie Fowler with a 5-under 65 at TPC Southwind.
