Welcome to another edition of our newsletter, in this week’ mail we have all your recent results, the juniors have been busy out on the course, and there is a fantastic event coming up at the Pro Shop. Enjoy the read!

Junior news

Junior Academy

Last week we held the last Friday night junior academy evening of the summer. We have averaged over 20 juniors per week and it is great to see some of these juniors now progressing into the junior section and getting out on to the golf course. Our Junior Team have progressed well this year and we hope to see some of our junior academy players representing the junior team next year.

I would like to thank Graham Evans our Junior Organiser and all the volunteers who have helped to make the sessions so successful.

I would also like to thank the Juniors Sponsor Greenhous and the Shrewsbury Seniors' Section who help fund the junior section.

Well done to all of those who participated in the Junior senior trophy.

Congratulations to Division 1 Winners Andy and Ewan Birch and Division 2 winners Steve and John Dudson.

Fitting centre news

PING Fitting Day

Tom from PING did a great job on Monday helping to advise and custom fit some of our members. All the appointments were filled and the feedback has been very positive.

If you could not make it on Monday and are interested in PING equipment, we do have a full selection of different demo heads and shafts in the pro shop. So please give me us a call if you would like to have a fitting, or click here to send us an email.

Men’s Thursday Stableford - Tuesday 24th September

Division One:

1st - Phil Beaman - 38 points (4).
2nd - Scott Henderson - 36 points (6).
3rd - Derek Jury - 36 points (6).

Division Two:

1st - Chris Howard - 41 points (19).
2nd - Roger Chapman - 39 points (28).
3rd - Bob Pearson - 38 points (24).

There were 10 twos worth £4.60 each.

Tom Lloyd Tankard - Sunday 22nd September

Overall Winner - Ben Davies (72-7=65).

1st - Jonathan Harris (79-13=66).
2nd - Dean Suter (80-14=66).
3rd - Anthony Green (80-12=68).

Division Two:

1st - Neil Patterson (86-19=67).
2nd Ian Lambie (86-19=67).
3rd David Butler (88-18=70).

Best Gross - Tom Kerr - 69. There were 14 twos worth £4.85 each.

Well done to Ben Davies who shot a nett 65 to win the Tom Lloyd Tankard.

Congratulations to Anne Jones who got a hole-in-one on the 6th hole. This was Anne's first hole-in-one and she went on to win her divison.

I am excited to say that not only have our Ladies Annodata team progressed into the Quarter Final of the competition, to be played here on Sunday 29th September 11:00am against Colchester Golf Club, but our Ladies Handicap Team beat Oswestry at home on Friday 20th September to get into the Handicap League Final, details to be confirmed later.

These ladies deserve the club's congratulations for all their hard work and we can look forward to supporting them in their future matches.

Winter is coming

Have you ever noticed how much harder you need to hit your putts in the winter compared to summer? As surfaces begin to slow due to longer grass and wetter greens, the need for a little extra effort on your putting stroke becomes clear.

Should you change your putter?

As putts need to be hit harder to get the ball going the same distance as they do in the summer months, using a heavier putter certainly won’t do you any harm.

The thought here is that a heavier putter will do more of the work for you, allowing for a smooth and more controlled putting stroke.
