I hope everyone enjoyed watching the Ryder Cup, I thought it was a great weekend of golf and really showed golf at its best. The standard of golf under pressure was fantastic and it was of course great to see, as predicted, the European team lead by Paul McGinley come out victorious.

Tina and Hilary have emailed me and would like to thank everyone who has played in the Monday Night Mixed Greensomes this year. There were also a number of helpers who have made the evenings run smoothly - we couldn't do it without you! Most weeks 28 people played in the 9-hole competition and enjoyed a meal afterwards it has been a very enjoyable and successful year.
Junior/Senior Greensomes Competition
Last Saturday in perfect conditions 28 competitors played in the annual Junior/Senior Greensomes competition. It was a fantastic day which provided some interesting situations, it is very refreshing to see the juniors playing with absolute no fear and taking every shot on. Even when you found your ball in an impossible situation there attitude was stand back and watch this.
Richard Beason organised the event in to 2 divisions the juniors with official handicaps and those without. Congratulations to Larissa and Sara Jones who won the Division 1 Trophy.
I would also like to thank my daughter Katie who partnered me and managed to hole a 4 ft putt on the 18th green for a par which gave us a win in division 2.
Simon Davies
Congratulations to Simon Davies who has now completed all the requirements to start his PGA training. Simon has worked very hard on his golf this summer and also had to sit some academic qualifications in order to become eligible to start his training. Colin Thaw, through his training company, helped Simon attain the correct academic credentials and then last Monday Simon travelled down to Essex to take his playability test which he passed by a couple of strokes. Simon will now become a registered PGA trainee at Shrewsbury Golf Club and therefore will lose his amateur status later this month. Simon now has a very intense 3 years of training ahead of him in order to become PGA qualified and I would like to wish him all the best.
