A Note from the Chairman Ref Consultation on Partnership Scheme
The trial Partnership scheme with Lilleshall Hall and Bridgnorth golf clubs will shortly be coming to an end. Before deciding on the next steps the Committee would like to and obtain the views of as many members as possible as to whether we should consider: Continuing the existing arrangement? Continuing but on different terms/fees? Switching to a different basis (such as the reciprocal terms we have with a number of other clubs)? Letting the arrangement lapse or some other option? We would urge as many members as possible to let the Secretary have their views/suggestions by emailing tony@shrewsburygolfclub.co.uk or by post. We will, of course, also be seeking the views of our current partner clubs at the same time. We would like as many members as possible to have their say, so please take the time to respond if you possibly can, preferable by Tuesday 12th February 2019. Iain Gilmour (Chairman) |

Coming soon: Callaway Epic Flash This time two years ago, we were sitting here in fascination as Callaway introduced Jailbreak Technology for the very first time. Safe to say that the Epic driver was exactly that - epic - and produced major distance gains for the majority of golfers who were custom fitted for one. Fast forward to now and Callaway is bringing Epic Flash to market, which they say has a 'radically different face design' that will promote faster ball speeds and, in turn, greater distance. |

Looking for a game? In the Pro Shop we are setting up a WhatsApp group for members who may be looking to meet up with some new members to play with. We often get asked if anybody is looking for a game. This question comes from new members, members who have recently retired and have more time, members who have lost their regular golfing partner, or just had a change in circumstances. The group will be used as a way of contacting new people, organising games and getting out and enjoying the course. If you are interested in joining, please click here to register your email address and phone number or call in to the Pro Shop and we can get you added to the group and playing more golf. |
Rules confusion A few questions regarding the new rules have been asked in the Pro Shop in the past week, and one in particular seems to be causing some confusion - lost ball or ball out of bounds. The R&A did circulate a recommendation to speed up play that you could simply drop a ball in the area that you thought the ball was lost. This is NOT allowed in competitive golf. When playing competitive golf, if you hit a ball out of bounds or loose a ball then you must re-play the shot under penalty from where you last played it. This procedure has not changed from last year. |
A tense final hole... It was a shock win for world number 417 Adam Long, as the American claimed his maiden PGA Tour title at the Desert Classic in California. A bogey-free card for Long – in what was only his sixth tour event – led to a final round of 65, finishing on 26 under. He fought off stiff competition from the considerably more experienced Phil Mickelson, who was left ruing a lack of composure on the greens, as he finished one shot behind Long. Mickelson had carded an opening round of 60 – his best ever round on tour – but he failed to cling on to his lead as Long claimed a well-deserved victory. On the European Tour, it was an equally nerve-wracking end in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, with Shane Lowry emerging victorious by one shot over South African Richard Sterne. It was the first victory on tour for Lowry since August 2015, and signals a return to form for the Irishman. A test of nerve was required with both Lowry and Sterne level on the 18th tee, but Lowry’s birdie at the last sealed the win. |
The last thing anyone wants is to purchase a new set of irons, only to struggle massively when they take to the course with their friends a few days later. Sound familiar? Well, with lots of new products about to land in-store for 2019, here is an iron model that we recommend having a custom fitting for... |
Mizuno's JPX919 Hot Metal iron is packed with stunning features to help you hit more greens in regulation than ever before. As its name suggests, the Hot Metal produces extreme ball speed for greater distance whilst maintaining a lovely ball flight. The great thing about Mizuno is its DNA fitting software. In just three swings, this unique system will tell us which iron model (7 to choose from) will be best suited to your swing, as well as giving us a choice of shafts - the engine of the club - that'll really allow us to make sure you walk away with the perfect set for your game.
