Hargrove result - First leg The A team managed a convincing win at home against Kington A in the first leg last Sunday. Tom Kerr and Barry Ruddick won 1 up, Jamie Hancock and Sean McCarthy halved the last hole in birdies to also win 1 up. Nick Evans and Timmy Corfield had a very emphatic 8 up win, resulting in a 3-0 ten hole lead to take to Kington this Sunday. The B team unfortunately lost 2-1 to 3 holes down to a very strong Herefordshire A team. Mark Corfield and Martyn Travis lost 6 down. John Williams and Gary Plant had a fantastic 5 up win in the second match. In the final match Brad Dunning and Jake Wootton lost 2 down to some very good golf from the Herefordshire pairing. Good luck to both teams this Sunday in their return fixtures!

Par 3 Challenge The Golf Club Chairman, Iain Gilmour, organised a new competition and kindly supplied the prizes for this event. The feedback was very positive with many players wishing to repeat the event next year. Thank you to the Chairman who supplied the following: "On Saturday we saw a new competition format, suggested by the USGA – a Par3 Challenge. Each hole was provided with temporary tees placed at various distances from the green to enable each to be played as a par3. Distances were determined in relation to the stroke index of the hole and chosen by the Chairman and the Head Greenkeeper. Teams of 4 (with 2 scores to count) could be gents, ladies or mixed. There was a shotgun start at 9.30 a.m. and the teams finished in approximately three and quarter hours. The winning team for the Ladies was Frieda Stokes, Sheila Combes, Alwena Edwards and Janice Steggles. For the men, Tim Jones, Tim Othen, Paul Somers and Mark Somers. The Mixed team winners were the Lady Captain, DaveFisher, Graham Evans and Jean Evans". |
Ladies 9 hole Stableford result 1st - Janice Steggles = 19 points, 2nd - Mair Harris = 18 points, 3rd - Jean Evans = 18 points
Prior Cup result The match was halved 2.5-2.5, but Shrewsbury School retain the trophy as they won it last year. |

Sometimes it's nice to reminisce about the good times. When it comes to golf, the days of persimmon woods, small clubheads and hitting balls which were hard as a rock are long gone - but it can help to take a trip down memory lane to remind us of just how much technology has developed, particularly in the case of drivers. |
Time tunnel
Take TaylorMade for example; you might have been lucky enough to own its iconic r7 Quad driver way back in 2004. The r7 was memorable for introducing the then-revolutionary concept of changeable weights in a driver, which was a massive shift from the conventional 'one weight fits all' approach. The r7 Quad is a classic club, and is certainly remembered with fondness. Fast-forward to the present day and TaylorMade has released its most technologically advanced driver to date in the form of the M3. The M3 really shows just how far we've come in terms of moveable weights, with a Y-Track feature that allows golfers to adjust their settings for optimal trajectory, maximum forgiveness, or less spin. So, whilst it is nice to think about your first ever driver, it's probably time to get up to speed with the latest models such as the M3. Who knows? Maybe in another 10 years time, you'll be looking back on the M3 with as much fondness as the r7 Quad! |
