Ladies Captains away day What a great Lady Captain’s “away day” it was for 22 Shrewsbury golfers who teed off at the immaculate Ingestre Park Golf Club in Staffordshire. Monica Scott chose the destination well with pristine fairways, trees galore, manicured greens and even a mediaeval mansion in the grounds, making up this truly wondrous scenic golf course. There were some horrendously tricky greens on varying slopes which forced even some of the low handicappers into three putting – but everyone enjoyed the test. Shame the Government plans to put the HS2 high speed trainline right through this gem of a golf course. Lady Captain’s team, which included Marion Adams and Elaine Adams took first prize. There was also a fluke eagle on the 18th as Elaine chipped in from 130 yards. Runners up were Linda Mottram, Gill Ferguson and Mair Harris with
Janice Steggles, Margaret Stevens and Lis Leong taking third place. The catering staff also provided a very tasty dinner. If you haven’t had a visit to Ingestre Park, it should be on your tour list. |
Ladies Invitation Wednesday 5th September The ladies have been lucky again with the weather when they held the 2018 Invitation Competition on Wednesday 5th September. 36 ladies from Shrewsbury Golf Club each invited a guest of their choice to play a Fourball Betterball Stableford competition on a beautiful day! The sun shone, there was a touch of autumn in the air and the temperature was perfect for golf! The competition was played as a shotgun start, and the smiles on all the faces were testament to a relaxing and fun event producing some very good scores! We sat down afterwards and enjoyed a fantastic buffet in the marquee followed by prize giving. Very many thanks to Jayne Breeze who organised this successful event and to everyone who made this a very successful day both on and off the course.
The winners were:
1st Prize: Pam Mason and Caroline Sycamore (Lilleshall): 45 points 2nd Prize: Carol Burgan and Maureen Crane (Oswestry): 44 points 3rd Prize: Gill Snodgrass and Helen Watson: 43 points
Nearest the pin (2nd hole): Jane Edwards 2’s: Alwena Edwards and Gill Snodgrass

[* END *] Try a Garmin GPS for FREE Golf's a game where you need to utilise all the help you're given. Throughout September, we're giving you the chance to 'Try Before you Buy' on selected Garmin devices, including the Approach S20 watch. What do you have to lose? Click here to learn more. |

Titleist Speed Project arriving soon As the name suggests, Titleist's new metalwoods are all about speed and distance. If you're an avid watcher of golf on TV, you may have seen some of the world's best golfers - Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth and Adam Scott to name a few - using the new TS woods from Titleist over the past few months. Well, we're delighted to announce they'll be landing in-store this month so that you can add some distance to your game. If you want to be one of the first to try them, get in touch via the button below. Click here to register your interest. |

Sightlines on putters might seem like a nice design, but they are there for a reason as they help you aim your putts more accurately, and help you centre the ball on your putter. But with so many different styles, it can be hard to know which one will aid you the most. |
It’s up to you If you prefer a more modern look, why not try the TP Red-White Ardmore 3? Alignment is improved considerably thanks to the red-white contrast, which helps golfers envision a proper path from the ball to the hole. Various head shapes with different sightlines in the Ardmore range means there'll be a sightline to suit every golfer's eye. |
|
Something different Alternatively, the Spider Tour from TaylorMade is certainly for those who prefer a larger head. This putter's used by some of the world's very best golfers, such as Jason Day and Dustin Johnson. A recent addition is the sightline on the crown, helping to dial in your focus over every putt as well as act as an extension to the line on your ball when lining up your putts. |
