Competition news

Monday Social Golf - 23/04/18

Thanks to all the ladies who turned up on Monday evening! We also welcomed new member, Alex Jones, and had twenty people altogether. The course was looking good after all the fine weather and we played nine holes of mixed Greensomes.

The winners with 22 points were Allan McVittie and Marie Sherratt, in second were Mr Captain and Paula Lucas with 21 points. In third place (18 points) were Alex Jones and Lady Captain on a countback from David Czarnetzki and Alwena Edwards.

Next week we shall be playing mixed Greensomes. Please arrive by 4.40 for a 4.50 draw for partners. Entry fee £1.00. Everyone is welcome.

Lady Captain's shotgun competition - Wednesday 18th April

18 hole, 3 ball stableford with best 2 scores to count at each hole.

1st - Gill Snodgrass, Gill Ferguson & Maggie Millward = 67pts OCB

2nd - Margaret Burge, Jane Edwards & Margaret Cooke = 67pts

3rd - Monica Scott, Pat Turner & Amanda Christmas = 63pts

The weather was sunny and warm for the first time this year - which was enjoyed very much by all the ladies who played. Congratulations to the winners.

Congratulations to Iain Anderson who had a hole in one on the 14th hole during the competition.

News from the Competitions Committee

We are now getting into the competitive playing season. With the grass now growing rapidly, we are hoping that winter rules can be removed shortly. Update on this next week.

Please look at the golf clubs website, there are plenty of competitive opportunities coming up. There are still spaces left in the various Shrewsbury Golf club opens including the Seniors Open in early June which is always full by the closing date. Please enter these competitions soon to avoid disappointment.If you have any problems entering these events online, please contact either the Office or the Pro Shop.

Rules notice - Just a reminder that turning off the fountain whilst playing the 6th hole is a breach of the rules of golf and players competing in a competition will be penalised under Rule 13 -2.

A common phrase we hear here in the shop is: “It’s round and white, it can’t be that different”. The truth is that every single golf ball is unique in some way – whether it’s the ball’s core, layers or dimple pattern – but there is one thing that all premium balls have in common…
