Welcome to another edition of our newsletter, in this week’s mail we report on various competition results, we prove fitting leads to success, the seniors have been practicing their short game, and it is your last chance to order the Titleist ball deal. Enjoy the read!

Competition results

Monday Social Golf – April 16th

This week we were short of ladies but we managed to put together six groups and played mixed greensomes.

Congratulations to Mr Captain and Celia Russell who won with 19 points. Close behind, with 18 points, were Bob Hill and Elaine Adams ocb from the Lady Captain and Allan McVittie.

Next week we shall probably play a nine-hole mixed scramble, depending on numbers! Please arrive by 4.40 for a 4.50 draw. Entry fee £1.00.

Fitting news

Success with new golf clubs...

Well done to James Morgan who picked up his new set of custom fit Callaway irons from the Pro Shop last week, and then won the April Medal first division.

Bob Oakley is also very happy with his new purchase of custom fit Mizuno irons, after taking £1 of his playing partners using his new clubs.

With the playing season now underway if you are interested in a new set of irons or woods, the pros shop has lots of demo heads and shafts from all the main manufactures. If you’re interested in numbers, we also have a launch monitor to tell you how far each club goes.

Junior Academy

The junior academy starts again this Friday running from 4:30pm-5:30pm.

Seniors Coaching

This week we covered the subject of bunker shots and lob shots, there was great improvement amongst the seniors, as they all learnt the correct technique of executing the perfect bunker shot.

The photo below shows our club captain Les Lewis playing a beautiful, floating, high flop shot over the bunker.

Well done to Gordon Woods who won lob shot of the day.

Are you a V or X?

When it comes to golf balls, there are two questions we hear on an almost daily basis, both concerning Titleist’s Pro V1 and Pro V1x. So we thought we’d take this opportunity to let you all know the answers...

What’s the difference between V and X?
Both of the Pro V1 balls are designed to provide long and short game performance, but there are subtle differences from tee-to-green.

While both feel soft, the Pro V1 is a little softer and has a penetrating flight that delivers more roll from the tee, whereas the Pro V1x feels firmer and flies higher.

Which one should I play?
If it’s a straight shootout between the Pro V1 and Pro V1x, then you’re going to benefit from distance, control and feel either way.

Both models are used on tour by players such as Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas, but it really comes down to your personal feel preference and which characteristics suit your game, which we can discuss during a ball fitting.
