Welcome to another edition of our newsletter, this week we keep you updated with the 1st leg of the Hargrove results, have some heavily reduced irons in the shop for you, invite you to come and get fitted, and round up some recent results. Enjoy the read!

Hargrove results

Congratulations to the Hargrove A team for winning the first leg against Hawkstone Park 3-0, 12 holes up. Barry Ruddick and Tom Kerr won 7 up, Nick Evans and Timmy Corfield won 1 up and Martyn Travis and Jake Wootton won 4 up. The return leg is this Sunday at Hawkstone Park. Commiserations to the B team who lost 2-1, 5 holes down away against Ludlow B. Dan Perry and Mark Corfield lost 4 down, Mark Wootton and Scott Henderson lost 3 down and Chris Male and Kevin Tudor won 2 up. The return leg is also this Sunday at home. Good luck to both teams.


Prior Cup

Congratulations to Shrewsbury School who beat Shrewsbury Golf Club 3-2 to win the Prior Cup. The Prior Cup is the oldest cup competition at the club dating back to 1920.

A Blue Ribbon Event

Senior Men won over the Ladies on Friday to capture the Grafton Cup.

The Cup has been sporting pink ribbons for a number of years but they are now blue. It was a very enjoyable day. Forty four members took part and the 11 matches were competitive but friendly.

How often do you use yours?

If you’re going to challenge your best ever score and start getting that handicap down, sharp wedge play will be an absolute must and to have that you’ll need the tools for the job.

Wedge Options

You use them all time

As you can see above, you need to be able to use a wedge from a variety of situations, which makes it so important to have a set-up of two, three or even four that suit your personal technique and the type of shots you like to hit.

Need a bit of help?

Think back to the distance you hit the ball in the winter... is it as far as you hit it during the summer? The answer is probably no and there are various reasons for that, but using a ball that’ll give you that distance back over the winter could be beneficial.

Not hitting it as far?

Cold winter air is more dense than warmer summer air, increasing both lift and drag forces on your ball, which results in a higher and shorter trajectory. When you combine this with softer fairways, typically colder muscles and more layers of clothing, the distance will keep dropping off.
