Match Report
Thank you to Warren Perks and Tom Kerr who challenged the Captain and myself to our first match of the season. All proceeds from these matches go to the Captains Charity. Thank you to Warren for his generous donation.
As always the match was played in a good but very competitive spirit. We were not sure how the match was going to work out with both the Captain and Warren hobbling across the car park asking for use of a buggy. Warren was without a medical certificate but being a doctor he wrote an illegible medical note on a score card which the Captain accepted for this match. Though they shared a buggy after a couple of holes of fierce competition all injuries aches and pains were forgotten about as the battle was under way.
Tom Kerr found some of his best form so far this year smashing his tee shots very long and straight. Tom managed to drive it through the green on the 4th hole and almost drove the 16th green. His tee shots on the par 5 s made them all very reachable in 2 with a mid-iron putting Rob and I under a lot of pressure.
The match was not looking good for us as we went 3 down on the 8th hole through Warren being the only player to hit the green and make par. But the Captain managed to use his years of competitive experience to dig us out of a hole getting nett birdies on 9 and 11 to close the margin. Somehow with our backs up against the wall we hung on in there to level the match on 17 with a nett 2. A scrambled par on the 18th from Tom and myself made the match evens. It was a great performance from our challenges and the Captain and I were very pleased to walk away with a half.
Hopefully Tom can maintain this great ball striking and we wish him well in achieving greater results this year.
