Greetings from John Richards
Shrewsbury Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

It has been a very busy week with some mixed weather. The course is playing well although with the recent rain it has been playing a little longer than usual for this time of year. With perfect conditions for the grass to grow the green keepers are being kept busy cutting and preparing the course for our various open events. Thank you to all the members who helped the green keepers a week last Tuesday with the re seeding of the worn areas. The comments I received after the seniors open were all very positive and complimentary of the course especially the quality of the greens.

Congratulations to Sean Mccarthy who shot his lowest ever competitive round at Shrewsbury Golf Club whilst competing in the Corrie Cup last Saturday. Sean's three under par 67 brings his handicap down to 0.7.

2nd - Cliff Crocker & Jeremy Henshaw - 42 points
3rd - Terry Dunne & David Cooper - 40 points

Well done to Josh who this week competed in a 2 day PGA Midlands order of merit event at South Staffs Golf Club with Bob Hill. Josh finished in the top 6 of the event with scores of 2 over and 1 under. The winner of the event was Paul Broadhurst who shot rounds of 2 under and 5 under to win by 4 shots. Josh would like to thank Bob Hill for accompanying him for 2 days, 1 of which was in torrential rain.

Next week the 2014 US Open starts at Pinehurst with Justin Rose looking to defend the title he won last year. We are currently running a sweepstake, please call in to the pro shop to enter.

How technology helps youstrike a longer ball

Picture that long par 3 that requires a sweetly struck 5-iron. It's an easier hole with a 7-iron in your hands, right? Brands work hard to make our golf more enjoyable; and distance gains are always welcomed...
