So far this January we have enjoyed some mild conditions and the course has been playing well for the time of year. Unfortunately though due to the heavy rain last Saturday night the greens were flooded early Sunday morning therefore the shotgun competition was cancelled. There is a stableford competition on Saturday please enter on the Shrewsbury Golf Club website.

The new bunkers to the right of the 9th green have now been turfed and a thin lining of sand has been applied, these will be in play come springtime.
The area is now strictly GUR and a drop zone is now in play. We have also installed a drain from the new grass bunker on the 13th which has also been turfed and is also now GUR.
We have been completing lots of aeration work on the course to aid drainage, to help keep the course open as much as possible during the winter months.
We have also planted new trees on 10 and 14 to help re shape both holes, and new trees have been planted on 4 and 7 to replace the ones that have been removed.

Last weekend there was excitement on the both the European Tour event in South Africa and the PGA Tour in Hawaii. On the European Tour GraemeStorm who thought he had lost his tour card last season beat RoryMcllroy on the 3rd playoff hole to win the BMW South African Open. This is a career changing moment compared to last season where Graeme finished 111th in the order of merit and thought he had lost his tour card. Fortunately for him PatrickReed who was ranked higher did not meet the criteria for remaining a European tour member therefore Graeme was elevated to get the last spot at 110th.
On the PGA Tour a 23 year old called JustinThomas picked up his 3rd victory after shooting a first round 59 followed by 64, 65, 65 which gave him the lowest ever 36 and 72 hole total of 27 under par! To go out and beat his fellow pros by 7 shots may be the mark of a new golfing super star.
