Due to heavy rain, the course was closed from Sunday through to Tuesday. Therefore the Men's team competition on Sunday was cancelled.
The Pro Shop and the practice ground remain open even if the course is closed so please feel free to pop in to browse the shop for Christmas gifts, hit some range balls or book a lesson to help tune your game.
Congratulations to Ashley Chesters who last Thursday earned himself a European Tour card for 2017 after finishing inside the top 25 at European Tour Q School. Ashley had an extremely successful amateur career and hopefully can have an equally successful professional one. We would like to wish Ashley good luck for the 2017 season.

Hargrove Result By Tom Kerr
On an extremely cold and wet day at Hawkstone Park, the A team managed to earn a vital point thanks to the efforts of the in-form pairing Martyn Travis and Nick Evans. With the overall result ending in a 2-1 3 holes down loss, the 3 up win of Martyn and Nick proved vital. They battled back from being 2 down after 5 holes, shooting an impressive 3 under gross on the back nine to seal the win. This keeps up an impressive run of wins for the pair. Barry Ruddick and Sean McCarthy struggled against the strong pairing of Roly Jones and Nigel Chesters losing 4 down. Tom Kerr and Mark Corfield went ahead early but soon found themselves down after the turn thanks to a string of birdies from Andrew Porter and Teddy Hall. Mark bundled a long birdie putt in on the 11th hole to cut the deficit to 1 down but a poor second shot from Tom on the 14th found the drink and another bogey on 16 meant another loss for Shrewsbury. This means it's all to play for in the return leg on Sunday. Any support from the members would be greatly appreciated, the first tee off is 9:30.
Congratulations to Sarah Jones who had her first hole in one on the 6th also to Glynn Hughes who had one the day before.
Sarah was very happy with her achievement as I witnessed the celebrations from the 5th hole.
The rest of the family Stewart, Larrisa and Saffy are all very good golfers but as Sarah pointed out they have not achieved this feat yet, so I am sure Sarah will be enjoying this subject for a while.
Green Keepers News
Over the last couple of weeks, we have been continuing to collect the fallen leaves, and now we are coming to the end this never ending job.
Following the bunker reconstruction on the 9th hole we have begun to install the liner, and then turfing can take place, this will also happen on the 12th & 13th holes where we have turned the fairway bunkers into grass bunkers.
After the 3 inches of rain between Saturday and Tuesday the greens recovered very quickly, the aeration work that has been carried out throughout the year and the Air2G2 aeration that recently took place (please see Greens news on the website) has really worked well.
After some very mild damp weather during this month we sprayed a preventative fungicide on the greens to help prevent any disease outbreak, due to the favourable weather conditions we had a outbreak of Fusarium on the greens, which was sprayed for immediately and has killed of the disease. You will see small patches on the greens where the grass has died off which will recover.
Thank you to all the members who have been into the ProShop and used their £10 Christmas voucher. With the media hype on Black Friday we have added a few extra deals on this weekend especially on golf bags. If you are looking for a new golf bag now is great time to get one.
Please remember that if you are searching on the internet for that ideal golfing gift that we are very happy to price match American Golf and we can offer expert knowledge to make sure you get the right equipment for you.
Galvin Green is one company that we deal with but do not stock in quantity. We will be placing an order next week and if you would like us to add any items please email the pro shop for a quote (we can generally quote 5% less on Galvin Green products than the advertised internet prices.) Using the pro Shop gives you free delivery and hassle free returns if the item does not fit. Please click here to see their current brochure.
