Pros news

It is great to see so many of you continuing to enjoy your competitive golf. It is at this time of year that I actually mange to get a couple of rounds in myself.

Thank you to the Shrewsbury Shankers who invited me on their day out to Ludlow last week where I was fortunate enough to be in the same team as Andrew Snodgrass who individually scored 43 points which secured a victory for the team.

Yesterday I played in a local Pro-Am alliance at Hawkstone Park with Adrain Price, David Fisher and Allan McVittie who were great company. We all enjoyed the day but unfortunately my 4 over par round and the teams 5 under par score was not good enough to get in the prizes but we intend to do better on our next outing. There will be some more PGA alliances to play in after Christmas and if you would like to enjoy a day out please contact the pro shop.

Winter golf

My advice for the playing in the cold weather is to wear lots of layers, use winter mitts and hand warmers and don't strike any thin shots with cold hands. Please call into the pro shop if you require any items to help keep you warm this winter.

Course news

Greens News

On the course over the last few weeks, the main task has been to collect the fallen leaves. The leaf collector has been out every day yet we still seem to be losing at the moment as they are falling faster than we can collect, hopefully over the next few days we can get back on top of them.

We have also been constructing a new bunker on the 9th hole which gives a bigger area now to walk off the green to help spread the wear. On Monday we will be adding another bunker on the 9th which will be short right of the green to help keep the holes integrity.

The fairway bunkers on the 12th and 13th have also been remodelled and will become grass bunker which will provide a different type of hazard to the golf course.

So far the golf course is coping with the Autumn/Winter weather, and the recent dry weather has helped with this along with the work we have been doing to the greens/tees/fairways/walk off areas over the last year. The roped areas area also helping divert traffic so please follow them to help protect your golf course.

Hargrove Results. By Tom Kerr

The A team set up a mouth-watering quarter-final tie with Hawkstone Park after advancing past Shifnal B in the second round. Going to Shifnal requiring just one point to progress, Shrewsbury managed to gain that point via a 2 up win from Martyn Travis and Nick Evans. Unfortunately Tom Kerr and Mark Corfield weren't at their usual best and got hammered 6 down. Barry Ruddick and Sean McCarthy earned a well fought half point meaning honours were all even in the 2nd leg but Shrewsbury advanced through 4-2. This sets up a tough fixture for the A side against Hawkstone who have come out victors against Shrewsbury in recent years. Hopefully Shrewsbury can come out on top this time.

Good luck to the B team who play at home on Sunday against Ludlow.
