Notice from The Committee
Please see an abbreviated version of a notice which is displayed in the club house reference speed of play and letting through faster players.
Your Committee has become seriously concerned at a number of recent incidents involving both slow play and not inviting others to play through. If these incidents continue to occur then there is a serious risk of damage to our Club's reputation, to members' enjoyment of our course and to our ability to attract visitors.
We believe Shrewsbury Golf Club has established an enviable reputation over its long history for offering a fair test of golf, a welcoming atmosphere and excellent facilities and to put this reputation at risk would be unforgivable.
We would therefore like to draw every member's attention to the first section in the Rules of Golf as published by the R&A:
"Players should play at a good pace. The Committee may establish pace of play guidelines that all players should follow. (Our course has such guidelines on the course).
It is a group's responsibility to keep up with the group in front. If it loses a clear hole and is delaying the group behind, it should invite the group behind to play through, irrespective of the number of players in that group. Where a group has not lost a clear hole but it is apparent that the group behind can play faster, it should invite the faster moving group to play through."
We would therefore appreciate it if you would also bring this request to the attention of your regular playing partners.
Thank you

Winner of the Lady Captains Prize Anne Jones.
We at last had a lovely day, just one rumble of thunder. The ladies appeared to enjoy their game, beginning with roses as tee markers on the first tee. The game was followed by a presentation supper with Past Captains as guests, this also appeared to be enjoyed, particularly as Rob Oakley had organised the waiters.
The ladies were well looked after at the halfway house by Bill Robinson and Eric Price.
There was wine, salads and Shropshire strawberries with Cornish clotted cream or Cornish ice cream.

Thank you to Les Lewis for supplying the following...
On Saturday 16th July 2016 the Cognac Trophy event was held at Oswestry Golf Club.
This is a team event and 30 teams from the Shropshire and Hereford Union were present on the day. Shrewsbury were represented by A Price, I Gilmour, D Sherratt & L Lewis. The team managed to win the event with a score of 85 points. This was achieved by some very good golf by our junior Dan, he was a joy to watch.
The weather was ' Red Hot ', as was the golf from the gents seniors team in their latest match against The Wrekin at Condover on Tuesday, a resounding 7-1 victory, the 'highlight' of the day was a 'Hole In One,' on the 6th hole by Shrewsbury's Graeme Crump!
Many thanks to all who turned out to represent the club, long may the winning trend continue. The availability sheets for the August matches are now on the senior's notice board, if you are interested in playing, please put your name up ASAP.

Heroic Henrik
The golf world has run out of superlatives for Henrik Stenson, who claimed his first Major title at Royal Troon last weekend - what a final round we were treated to. Has there ever been a more impressive final round in Open Championship history?
Both the Swede and 2013 Open champion, Phil Mickelson carded 63s around the famous links, but it was Stenson - who shot his 63 on Sunday - who prevailed, despite the American posting a hugely impressive 65.
On any other day, Mickelson would have been celebrating his sixth Major. To put their scoring into perspective, Mickelson (-17) finished three shots shy of Stenson but 11 clear of JB Holmes in solo third.
It was a two-horse race for the Claret Jug before they teed off on Sunday, but few people could have expected them to surge further clear in the manner they did. If you've been on holiday and haven't checked out the highlights yet, be sure to do so, it was something else.
