Tomorrow (Saturday 18 June) Shrewsbury Golf Club welcomes the top 6 players from 10 counties. The event is a tough format with all 6 medal scores counting towards the team's total. Play starts at 8am and will continue throughout the day with spectators most welcome. Generally in June the firm, fast greens makes scoring difficult but with all the rain we have received this week the competitors will be enjoying a very well presented course without its usual fast defences, therefore we could see some low scoring. I would like to wish our home players Sean McCarthy (County Captain) and Tom Kerr all the best as they represent the county in this prestige's event.
Congratulations to Sean McCarthy, Tom Kerr and Barry Ruddick who won the Team Championship event at the County Amateur last Saturday at Sapey. Sean was the highest placed Shrewsbury player finishing in Tied 4th position. The team prize was calculated by adding the 3 best scores from each golf club.
Congratulations to Nick Baker who won the England Golf captains qualifier at Druids Heath with 39 points. Nick managed to beat 108 other former captains in order to qualify for the grand final at Frilford Heath in August.
I would like to wish Simon all the best on Monday as he travels to Little Aston in an attempt to get through to the second stage of the Open qualification.
Please see below all this week's winners and please note that there are many more competitions coming up. Including the Open 4BBB next Saturday, please enter this online.

The gent's senior team travelled to Oswestry on Thursday 16th June, the weather started fair, but unfortunately we were unable to complete the match due to very heavy rain!! Considering the weather recently, the course was in excellent condition, even though the match finished early, Oswestry won 6-3, I would personally like to thank the players who stepped in 'at the last minute' to make up the team. The availability signup sheets for July are on the senior's noticeboard.
The match planned for Monday 26th June away at Bridgnorth has been CANCELLED.

Gents Seniors Captain
Is this golf's toughest Major venue?
It doesn't seem that long ago since Danny Willett was pulling on a certain Green Jacket, but here we are again, it's Major time. What lies in store? Well, it's not going to be a birdie fest, that's for sure.
Put simply, Oakmont is a brute - as you can discover for yourself below. The U.S. Open this weekend is a must-watch, especially if you like to see players work extra hard for their pars. This type of golf isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it does make a change to seeing winning totals around the -15 mark, as is often the case.
Here's a stat for you:
The entire field broke par just eight times during all four days in 2007
