I hope you have all been enjoying the fine weather; the golf course has been in great condition. Last week has been busy with lots of competitions. Our open competitions all went well. Incredibly in the Open Am-AM - there two holes in ones. A visiting lady called Esther McNeill had a hole in one on 17th! On the same day Kevin Roche got a hole in one on the 2nd! On Tuesday Tom Harding and I had a great day out at Little Aston in the Lombard Pro-Am. Tom played fantastically well and we managed to score 3 under par, which was very respectable. However unfortunately this was not good enough to progress to the final stages.

Course Closure Saturday 18th June 2016 until 18:00 Shrewsbury Golf Club has been selected to host the prestigious event, England Golf County Men's Championships. Midland Qualifying On Saturday 18th June 2016
This is a 36-hole event involving 60 of the top amateur golfers from 10 Midland Counties. Starting Tee Times will be from (08:00 until 09:30) and (13:00 until 14:30) from both the 1st and 10th tees.
Please feel free to come along and to support Tom Kerr and our other Shropshire & Herefordshire team players.

Social Monday was a scorcher with some brilliant evening play as a result. Twenty five members took to the course to play the nine-hole mixed greensomes stableford that is one of the most fun events of the week. As the sun blazed down through a cloudless sky on a course in immaculate condition some players became competitive. Roger Withinshaw has an enviable track record this season and Wyndham Emmott was keen to give Roger and his partner a run for their money when drawn against him with partner Judith Carroll. A tight battle commenced but Roger and his partner for the evening, Caroline Sycamore, prevailed. A sterling nine holes by Wyndham and Judith found them in third place with 20 points on count back from Bob Hill and his partner Marion. With a lack of men playing Bob Hill played with two ladies and found his score of 20 points with Mo Griffiths took second place on countback. However some great golf from Caroline and Roger saw them in first place with 21 points. All retired for a convivial meal in the clubhouse. It was good to see Mo Griffiths playing on a Monday night for the first time this season and take second place. If you would like to play in this great competition please put your name up on the mixed notice board.
The gent's senior section held their annual Open competition on Tuesday 7th June, the event was very well supported by golfers from all areas of Shropshire, West Midlands, and beyond. There were approximately 170 players; the weather was almost 'perfect' apart from rain during the afternoon. I would personally like to say ' Thank You ' to the following people for all their hard work and commitment;
Tom Kerr & Anne Richards, Dan & all the green staff (the course was in fantastic condition), Sue & all the catering staff, Sue & the bar staff, all the 'starters', volunteers you staffed the 'meet & greet', I would particularly like to thank Chris & Margaret Burge for all their very hard work in organising the event and sorting the final scores.
Congratulations to Keith Smith (2016 Gents club captain) & Les Lewis (comps chairman) on winning the competition with an excellent score of 44 Stableford points.
Seniors match vs. Market Drayton:
The gents senior section travelled to Market Drayton yesterday, fresh from a win at the Wrekin in the last match, keen to carry on their winning trend, the weather was fantastic, as was the course, the hospitality, and after some great golf, including a two from Dave Fisher on the par 4 eighteenth, Shrewsbury came a very creditable second, 4.5 - 3.5, any contributions gratefully received for my air fare to go on holiday, so Allan McVittie can lead the team to a couple of victories!!
