This week we have had some mixed conditions and as you can see from the photos below we have had some drainage issues which have now been resolved. I hope you all enjoyed The Masters, congratulations to those who backed Danny Willett and it was great to see so many British players in contention. This weekend the course is reserved for the April Medal on Saturday and on Sunday there is a junior competition and the Handicap League Team are playing their first match of the season. Please check the club website for details.
Greens Report
Over the last couple of weeks the grass cutting has really started to begin and the definition on the on the course is really starting to stand out. We have also been working hard on the bunkers, the have all been hoover mowed, strimmed and several have had sand added to them. Please note that the bunkers that were reconstructed on the 3rd, 4th and 17th are no longer GUR along with the surrounding areas that have been turfed.
Following the heavy rainfall on Monday, we discovered that one of the main outlet drains on the course had become blocked causing a major backing up of water on the 1st and 2nd holes causing the front 9 to be closed on Tuesday and the 2nd hole on Wednesday. The drain was unblocked on Wednesday evening and the course fully reopened on Thursday morning however there are still areas that are wet following this which should dry up quickly.
I am pleased to announce that Ross Griffiths has been promoted to Deputy Head Greenkeeper following the departure of Jon Volans, and I know Ross is relishing his new role at the golf club. Other jobs that have been carried out on the course are as follows:
- Replenishing Path material, (so far the big path by the 11th tee has been done and also some of the pot holes on other paths have been filled in), we will continue with this work next week. - Top Dressing of greens & Tees - Overseeding of walk of areas - Turfing of the removed shrubs on the 10th hole - Turfing of bare areas on the course - Tiding the ditch on the 1st
Thanks to Dan Perry for the above.
Tom Kerr
Congratulations to Tom Kerr who put in a good performance two weeks ago playing in the prestigious Gold Cross Event at Royal St David's. We predicted Tom would get down to scratch this year and after 3 solid rounds which saw him achieve 11th place Tom is now off 0.5. We are hoping that with Tom's good work ethic he continues to gain some excellent results.
