Membership Referral Scheme
Following a number of members leaving this year due to poor health there are limited membership opportunities available. Should any member have friends or family thinking of joining a quality golf club with an excellent course, an active ladies section, a fantastic junior academy and very friendly members then now is their opportunity to become a member of Shrewsbury Golf Club.
As part of a scheme to support the get into golf campaign the golf club has an offer for prospective members to entice them and you will also benefit from a membership referral award. Look out for posters in the bar and professionals shop where you will find application forms. Simply fill them in and talk to Tony Rowe who is looking forward to enrolling a few new members. Spaces are limited on a first come first served basis.
Les Lewis the comps chairman has asked me to remind everyone that if you have signed up for the various matchplay competitions this summer you need to have paid your entry through the office by Sunday 30th March. Only the members who have paid the entry will be entered into the draw.
We had a great turn out for last week's Stableford competition. The event was a handicap qualifying competition, therefore we had placing only on closely mown. This weekend's Medal will have the same rules, Yellow tees and placing on closely mown. Well done Tom Kerr who continues his good form winning Division 1 with 39 points, and well done to Tim Othen who won Division 2 with 38 points.

Thank you to Scotty Henderson for the following article on the Ken Smith trophy and congratulations to all the players who played so well to get Shrewsbury so far in the competition.
Under the guidance of team Captain David Sharpe, the team qualified from their group, with some outstanding performances, to reach the Semi-final stages.
Regretfully, following the team Captain's retirement, and the appointment of a new, younger, leader, the team's form dipped considerably.
Notable exceptions were namely, Glyn Hughes and Ray Buttery defeating Basil Griffiths and Dave Shephard on Llanymynech's home track.
In the same tie, a ferocious fightback from dormie three down, earned Ron Harris and Derek Jury a creditable half point.
The return leg saw Steve Gale, and the team Captain, inflict Basil Griffiths with his second defeat in a week. The match against Bridgnorth was, realistically, over when Shrewsbury lost 2 -1 at home.
Discussions, following the 3 - 0 defeat at Bridgnorth, resulted in the Team Captain's contract being terminated with mutual consent.
Ladies Fashion Show
This week the lady captain held her annual coffee morning to raise money for her chosen charity, and the pro shop provided a fashion show with much help from some wonderful lady members. The Lady Captain Sheila Band was present which was lovely to see during a very difficult time for her and hopefully she took some comfort by being with her golfing friends. The show and coffee morning went very well with all the models looking stunning in this year's new outfits. The fashion show can only go ahead with the support of many people and I would like to thank everyone involved.
The models are fantastic and many of them help out every year, Doreen in the office worked hard helping with the preparations and producing a beautiful programme for the event and printing off a questionnaire on its future.
A number of Ladies from the committee also worked hard in its preparation, but one lady did go above and beyond in her efforts so we presented a bottle of Wine to this year's house chairman Linda Mottram who spent hours preparing the marquee and even drove to Wem to collect a new red carpet for the models to walk up. Thank you to all the Ladies who helped with the organising and to those who attended helping to make the morning a success. The pro shop and ladies committee have felt that this event may need tweaking to attract a larger audience and to help raise more money for charity.
Many of the Ladies who attended completed a questionnaire and all replied stating that they would like the fashion show to continue but many would like to combine the event with golf and lunch.
Look out for more details on this later on in the year.
2016 Ladies clothing now in stock
If you require a new outfit for when the sun comes out please call into the pro shop. Daily, Green Lamb and Abacus never hold much stock so if you would like a matching outfit it is best to order now. Glenmuir hold a much larger stock level so it is usually much easier to find a matching outfit from their range. The pro shop staff after the fashion show are all now experts and even our new recruit Tom Kerr is getting to grips with the world of ladies golfing clothing! Please call in for some advice and availability.
