Today we are enjoying a beautiful spring day, but unfortunately last weekend we experienced heavy rain which closed the course for Sunday's competition. Les will now re run this competition next month.

The ladies also missed out on their competitive golf on Wednesday again because of course being waterlogged. On a positive note the forecast for this weekend is for dry weather so we hope to see many of you out enjoying your golf.

Fixtures this Weekend

Saturday Men's Winter Stableford course closed until 1pm. Followed by Ladies Match V Arscott 1pm till 1.45pm 

Sunday Presidents Plate V Oswestry 9.30am till 10.15am. Junior Stableford 10.45 till 11.45am

Congratulations to the Shrewsbury Golf Club mail on Sunday team who beat Hawkstone Park 3 -2 on Saturday. Hawkstone put a very strong together for this match which included a number of players who represent the county. In the final match Ali McCormick needed to get a result against Roly Jones who plays off +1. In a tense finish Ali managed to up and down his ball from the edge the green to secure victory for the home side. Congratulations to all the players captained by Rob Oakley, David Fisher, David Gilmour, Scott Henderson, Alistair McCormick and Kevin Taylor Lee.

Membership Referral Scheme

Following a number of members leaving this year due to poor health there are limited membership opportunities available. Should any member have friends or family thinking of joining a quality golf club with an excellent course an active ladies section a fantastic junior academy and very friendly members then now is their opportunity to become a member of Shrewsbury Golf Club. As part of a scheme to support the get into golf campaign the golf club has an offer for prospective members to entice them and you will also benefit from a membership referral award. Lookout for posters in the bar and professionals shop where you will find application forms. Simply fill them in and talk to Tony Rowe who is looking forward to enrolling a few new members. Spaces are limited on a first come first served basis.

Handicap League

There was a great turnout the other week from members wanting to play in the Handicap league. Trials and training is being held over a number of weekends leading up to the first match and selection of a team. Members interested in playing should contact Phil Millar. The next training session is on Sunday 13th March - 14:00 - 16:00.

Shrewsbury Golf Club McIntyre Snooker League (supplied by Graham Evans)

The Thursday evening snooker knockout tournament has concluded with an exciting premiership final won by David Gilmour and Nick Jones who narrowly defeated Brian Edwards and James Hughes. The prizes were presented by Colin McIntyre who inaugurated the tournament in 1991. He congratulated players for their commitment to the club and for continuing the competition to its 25th anniversary. The Championship group was won by past captain, Nick Baker and Alister McCormick who received their prizes from Reg Cutts who praised everyone for taking part in a great fun event. 

  




A team from the Gents Seniors section travelled to Ludlow GC on Thursday, 10 March to compete in the Tom Smart Trophy, The senior captain would personally like to thank Dave Fisher, Ian Timmins and Ray Smith for accompanying him to play in the competition, they finished a very creditable joint second with Burghill Valley GC with 93 points, Shifnal GC took the trophy with 95 points, so near, yet so far!

Mixed Open

The Golf Club is running a mixed open competition on the Wednesday 6th April. Please enter using the Golf club website.
