Congratulations to Ron Harris who had a hole in one on the 14th hole Tuesday 2nd February using a 5 wood.
This weekend's tee reservations:
We have our first men's qualifying stableford on Saturday with a reserved tee time 7.45am-12.45.
Sundays Mixed Valentine's competition 9.30-11am followed by a junior stableford 11-12 noon.
With the forecast looking cold but dry, we hope to see all three competitions going ahead.
Thank you to David Kidby for the following article:
Removal of Bush on the 10th Hole
The Laurel bush on the 10th fairway will soon be no more. Having grown too large creating wear and tear to the course as golfers navigate around it the bush will be taken out shortly. For some it's removal will be a welcome relief from the frustration of searching for a ball gathered up by its foliage. There was initial concerns that this prominent Laurel may have been planted in memorial, but extensive research has revealed no sentimental attachments prohibiting its removal. Once gone it will also have the advantage of speeding up play.
Use the rules to miss the matting
Over winter, matting has be laid around the greens and tees in some areas where the course needs protecting. The matting is a green diamond shape with grass often growing through it. This matting is temporary and will be removed in the late spring. Should you find your ball laying on the matting, or indeed under it, or it interferes with your stance or area of your intended swing then you should use Rule 24-2. The matting is an immovable obstruction. To take relief under Rule 24-2, follow the standard nearest point of relief procedure - i.e. you should establish your nearest point of relief using the club with which you would expect to play your next shot, then drop within one club-length (using any club) of that point but not nearer the hole.
Please make a note in your diary of the ladies fashion show. The show helps raise money for charity so please invite friends and family.
Thank you to Dan Perry for supplying the following
This week on the course we have finally been able to finish the three bunkers that we renovated this winter. We only have to add the sand to them and this will be done once the turf has knitted in well. These areas are all now "Strictly GUR". After a very wet start to the week the course has dried out well and providing it stays dry we should have a decent weekend of golfing.
Today is Jon Volans' last day with us, he is off to begin a new adventure in lawn care which I'm sure he will make a success of, and I would like to thank him for his hard work over during his time at Shrewsbury Golf Club.
