With Christmas fast approaching, I'm writing my last newsletter of 2015.

I hope you've all had a great 2015 and managed to achieve your many golfing goals? As you are well aware, golf is a very difficult game and many of you may not be quite so happy with your performances. If this is the case then please remember that your professional staff are here to help you enjoy this great game.

Nothing improves our job satisfaction more than when we get a happy customer telling us of a great score or shot that we have assisted with in the form of coaching or good club fitting or even an improved mental approach on the course. We really are here to help you improve your golf. Please let us know if we can help in 2016. Vouchers are available in the Pro Shop for coaching, new clubs or golfing goods. I hope to be updating the membership on many more great scores, achievements and the occasional holes in one next year.

I certainly have had an enjoyable 2015 playing some great matches with the Captain against various members. I would like to thank Nick Baker and all the golf club for their continued support. I know Nick has enjoyed his year as captain and has used the word fantastic to describe many occasion.

The special days that we have enjoyed this year have all been possible by having a very supportive and active membership. As Chairman of the county golf partnership and representitive on the Midland PGA I hear about many golf clubs who have suffered during the economic down turn and feel lucky and privileged that we are able to enjoy a thriving golf club where competitions and events are so well supported. I would like to wish all the members a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and look forward to seeing you all enjoying your golf in 2016.

Ladies news

Thank you to our Ladies Captain who supplied the following.

As my year ends as the Ladies Captain, I realise how lucky I have been in 2015.

Lucky:- To have had the support of so many members, golfing or social. Been able to have the help from the many members of staff when required. To have had a committee making sure the Ladies section has run smoothly. Also, I have been lucky in having Nick Baker as the captain, his stressless approach to the year has been a great advantage.

Through the year Nick and I have been supported by members from all sections and especially in raising money for our charity.

We would like to thank everyone for buying raffle tickets, playing bingo and putting money in the charity bottle all through the year. Thanks go out to the competitors who played on the charity day and then succumbed to pressure to spend their money at the auction.

Thanks to John Richards for donating his winnings of £500 (which can be seen in the picture being presented to the department) and to Dan Perry for running the Shrewsbury Half marathon and raising £733.04. Marion Adams and Shirley Byass made jewellery and bags which helped to make the ladies section donation £840. Also the President, David Williams for his donation of £25. Through your efforts we have been able to present the Neo-Natal unit at the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford with a cheque for £5,260.

May I take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy 2016.

Shrewsbury Golf Club gives £5,260 to Charity at Carol Concert

Today the Princess Royal Hospital's (PRH) Neonatal Unit received an early Christmas present courtesy of Shrewsbury Golf Club. Over the year a range of activities from golf competitions to fund raising raffles has generated £5,260 to support the hospital unit at PRH in Telford, which works to provide the highest standard of care for premature and ill babies. The money was presented to the Neonatal Unit at Shrewsbury Golf Club's Christmas carol service where the club choir led members in Yuletide celebrations.

Each year Shrewsbury Golf Club elects a charity to raise money for during the course of the year. They are selected by the Captain and Lady Captain of the club at the beginning of the year. This year the Club Captain, Nick Baker and the Lady Captain, Tina Robinson, chose PRH's Neonatal Unit.

Dr. Sanjeev Deshpande, Clinical Director for Neonatology at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust which runs PRH, joined members of Shrewsbury Golf Club at their annual carol service to enjoy Yuletide celebrations, and accept a cheque for £5,260.

"We care for pre-term and ill babies, so often the technology we use is very expensive," said Dr Deshapnde.

"We use a range of equipment from incubators and machines that cool babies and support their breathing to machines that deliver vital fluids and nutrients. The funds raised by Shrewsbury Golf Club this year are very welcome and help to support the care our staff provide to our pre-term babies. I'd like to thank Shrewsbury Golf Club for their generous donation that will help save the lives of babies."

Tina Robinson's grand-daughter, Violet Mae Robinson, was also at the presentation. Violet was one of the reasons for supporting the charity, receiving critical care from the Neonatal Unit when she was born prematurely.

"Violet would not be alive without the care she had from a neonatal unit. Today she is a very healthy 2 year old. That's why our fund raising this year aimed to ensure that our local neonatal unit at PRH has what it needs to look after young babies and new parents," reveals Tina.

Over 70 members of the club came to hear the club choir, made up of 20 club members, and join them in singing a wide range of Christmas carols. Tina Robinson and Nick Baker thanked club members for participating in a wide range of activities over the year to raise the money for the charities. "Nick and I have enjoyed hosting many events and activities throughout the year, from golf tournaments to fashion shows, that have been well received by club members and we would both like to thank them for their generous support that made raising the money for this worthwhile charity possible," said Tina.
